Please be aware that we cook and bake from scratch in all of our kitchens, including using flour products and making bread. However, ingredients may change at any time without notice by the manufacturer. Parents or guardians are welcome to visit our kitchens and review the ingredient statements on labels at any time by making an appointment with the school nutrition manager at their child’s school. That decision belongs only to parents, guardians, or licensed medical providers. School Nutrition staff members are not trained medical providers and will never determine if a child can or cannot eat a particular item. In some cases, an Individualized Education Plan or Health Plan developed by a building team will include direction regarding school meals. Return the original completed Special Diet Statement with the licensed physician’s signature to your school’s school nutrition manager.Īll requests for modifications are decided on a case-by-case basis by the school nutrition director, district or school nursing services staff, and the site school nutrition manager. Although an annual update is not required, the district may request an updated document, as needed. Food allergies or other dietary restrictionsĪll other requests for accommodations require a completed Special Diet Statement from a licensed physician. The statement must include both the items the student cannot eat and the items that may be substituted. Please bring a copy of the school breakfast/lunch menu to your physician appointment so the physician is aware of what foods are served at school. If your child needs lactose-reduced milk, please contact the school nutrition manager at the school your child attends. Lactose-reduced milk will be made available to any student with a written request from a parent or guardian. School nutrition managers are responsible for ensuring that these regulations and procedures are followed. Those regulations and Osseo Area Schools ISD 279 procedures are summarized below. Please read the regulations below, and take the Special Diet Form and a copy of our menu to your doctor to complete the form.ĭietary substitutions are governed by both federal and state regulations. ![]() Learn more and apply for Free and Reduced Meals Daily Meal Prices – For the 2022-2023 school year, students whose families do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will be required to pay the daily meal price.If your child has special dietary needs and requires a food substitution, a Special Diet Statement must be completed and returned to your Food Service manager. Parents/guardians must submit a new application every school year to maintain their student’s eligibility. Students from households that meet federal income guidelines are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. The HCPSS participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. More information is provided in Board of Education Policy 4200 Meal Charges. Meal account balances may be viewed at any time by logging in to MySchoolBucks. Meals will never be taken away when there are no funds or a negative balance in a student’s meal account. A meal will be provided and a charge will be applied to the student’s meal account. If a student forgets or does not have lunch, HCPSS practice is to ensure that no student goes hungry or is traumatized for lack of funds. Parents/guardians are responsible for providing their student(s) with money for meals, or packing a meal from home. We are proud to serve your child and encourage you to support our ongoing efforts to improve student health and well-being by participating in our food service program. In order for us to be successful, we are asking for full participation and open communication with the students and parents. We are committed to providing food that students are excited about eating. HCPSS offers a variety of meal choices with the goal of providing excellent service and high quality meals that meet or exceed federal and state requirements. We encourage households to complete Free and Reduced Meal applications, based on your household income eligibility. ![]() These waivers expired on June 30 and we will return to pre-pandemic ways of providing meals to students based on eligibility (free, reduced-price, and paid). ![]() Students need healthy, nutritious meals on a daily basis in order to function effectively.įor the past two years, federal waivers were in place to offer all students universal meals at no charge. We take our role in the development of the whole child very seriously.
